Special Congregational Meeting – May 17 @ 7:00 pm

Please join us for a Special Congregational Meeting on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:00pm to review and vote on a revised and amended proposal for By-Laws for Temple Beth Sholom.

At our congregational meeting in April, our Board of Directors heard your concerns about our recommendations and, subsequently, many of you communicated more detailed suggestions and ideas.  Several congregants attended our Board meeting on May 3, and we welcomed their ideas and participation.  The Board approved revisions to the original By-Laws proposal and these new By-Laws are now up for consideration.  You can access them through the links below.

The key policies that have been changed since the April meeting are:

  • The document was renamed “Amended and Restated Temple Beth Sholom of Orange County By-Laws”
  • An indemnity clause was added for the Board members.
  • The Immediate Past President was added as a voting Board member.
  • An At Large Director of Financial Development was added to the Board under the Treasurer.
  • Term limits for Board members were removed.
  • The presidents of Sisterhood and Brotherhood, and the Immediate Past President were added as Board members who count towards a quorum for Board meetings.
  • Language was added which instructs the Treasurer to provide a quarterly accounting to the Board.
  • Typographical errors were corrected and redundant language regarding Board and congregational meetings was deleted and/or modified and consolidated.
We are excited that these newly amended By-Laws present opportunities to strengthen congregational involvement and leadership.  We look forward to seeing you on May 17 for a thoughtful and insightful conversation and vote.

L’shalom,

Andrea Wasserman            Jack Holmes                         Rabbi Heidi Cohen
