Echoes of Elul, Day 10: Our People

By Brent Wasserman

Our people have built homes in every land;
Our hist’ry traces back five thousand years.
We persevere together, hand-in-hand;
Despite our past, which knows its share of tears.

Our people have been beaten, broken, killed;
For differing beliefs, for diff’rent views.
Erasure from the books has not been willed;
By God, or else there would be no more Jews.

Our people have been forced to live in fear;
And foreign lives they’ve had to pantomime.
Yet still we have not gone, won’t disappear;
Lest heritage and faith fall prey to time.

L’dor v’dor our people stick around;
May we in future years our peace have found.
