Echoes of Elul Day 22: My Blessing

By Monica Engel

Five years ago, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. It came as a big surprise because I was hospitalized with what the doctors thought was a lung issue. Needless to say, my first thought was how much longer will I live.

After arriving home and adjusting to the bad news, I decided to call our retired rabbi, Shelton (Shelly) Donnell for some comforting words. I told him, all I ask for is to live long enough to see our three great grandkids begin kindergarten.

Fast forward, they are currently enjoying second grade and I’m over the moon. By the way, now we are blessed with seven great grandchildren and there are more on the way.

God is good.
