Meet Lena Shupper, Our New Religious School Director

Temple Beth Sholom is thrilled to announce that Lena Shupper is joining our professional staff as our part-time Religious School Director.

Lena has an infectious enthusiasm and deep life-long love of Judaism. Her knowledge, creativity and skill-set work beautifully with those of Rabbi Sobel. They make a terrific team!

Lena is a native Californian who is an experienced educator and administrator in both public and Jewish schools. She holds a California teaching credential in English Education and in addition to teaching public school, Lena has taught in several Reform synagogues in LA and OC. She has served as the youth leader as near as the Long Beach Alpert JCC and as far as on cruise ships in the Caribbean.

Lena was the first Admissions Director for Irvine Hebrew Day School here in Santa Ana (where she’s also a parent), during which time her skills in recruitment and retention helped the school double in numbers. For the last year, Lena has been the Operations Manager for Culinary Judaics Academy, a hands-on curriculum teaching Judaism through cooking workshops. Lena is fulfilled by and committed to Jewish communal work that connects us to our shared heritage through experiential, meaningful education. It’s her passion to bring together Jews of all backgrounds through memorable shared experiences. Lena lives in Huntington Beach, CA with her two children, Elijah and Sophie and they love taking road trips together!
