National Refugee Shabbat

This national event is a meaningful opportunity to deepen our understanding of today’s global refugee crisis and connect with the Jewish movement for refugees.

Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Mai-Phuong T. Nguyen – As a child, Mai-Phuong was a refugee, fleeing from Vietnam on April 29, 1975, the day after the Vietnam war came to an end. Today, she is the Associate Producer of 2 awarding-winning documentary films: 1) Bolinao 52 (2009), a landmark, two Emmy-Awarded film about the resilience of Vietnamese Boat People that is used in cultural competency training of mental health workers caring for refugees suffering war-related post traumatic stress conditions. And Stateless (2013), deepens the context and conversation of the human rights of displaced persons.
