Dear Friends,
Our hearts are broken as we come to grips with the news of the murder of six newly slain hostages in Gaza. Among the six victims was Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American Israeli citizen who parents, Chicago natives Rachel Goldberg and Jon Polin, have been advocating tirelessly around the world for his release, for the release of all those held with him, and calling for an end to the suffering in Gaza.
We weep for all those who have lost their lives due to Hamas' brutality since October 7th. We mourn for those whose suffering continues due to the terror, the price of ongoing war, and the failure to recognize the right of Jews to live in peace in our ancestral home, Israel.
In response to the heartbreaking news from Israel, the Orange County Board of Rabbis, the Jewish Federation of Orange County, the Rabbinical Council, and the Merage JCC invite us to join together as one OC Jewish community and to gather in shared grief, hope, and unity.
Temple Beth Sholom's own Matthew Griffin will be leading the Shofar blasts.
When Words Are Not Enough: A Community Vigil 6:00 PM I Wednesday, September 4, 2024 I Merage JCC Join our community as we mark the beginning of Elul with a community shofar blast in memory of those killed by Hamas. We will gather for communal prayer and to let the shofar’s blast reflect our shared grief, hope, and unity. You are welcome to bring your shofar if you’d like to participate in the ceremonial moment.
Am Yisrael Chai!
