Social Justice Updates

Justice    Justice    Justice –  Tzedek    Tzedek   Tzedek

Dear TBS Community –

Our TBS Social Justice Committee has been meeting with interested temple members both individually and at House Meetings (hope you were able to attend one!) responding to the question, “How are you experiencing the brokenness of the world?”  We are excited to announce that after a deep and broad search of how we can become part of ongoing and sustained efforts throughout Orange County, we have come up with our top three topics from which we will select The One to be TBS’ focus on Social Justice (in no special order):

  1. Homeless
  2. Hunger
  3. Immigration

A very important congregational meeting will be scheduled where you will have an opportunity to hear presentations on all three topics, learn about the opportunities to become involved in each area, and then take a vote as to which issue will become “OURS!”

Our goal is to select the issue that is best aligned with TBS’ mission, the primary values of Reform Judaism and where we can make a significant difference. Please come to this meeting to listen, learn and cast your vote!

In the meantime, if you are looking for a way to get involved in TBS Social Justice, please mark your calendars for:

Sunday, January 13, 2019 – TBS is hosting the second annual regional gathering Reform congregational social justice leaders to learn from each other and plan for what we can accomplish together. Participants in last year’s regional gatherings came away energized and eager to continue the work together. you can register at https://racrj.wufoo.com/forms/w17sfk0h1wutfx6

Wednesday, January 23, 2019 – “Everyone Counts Orange County”  https://www.everyonecountsoc.org
What is the Orange County 2019 Point-In-Time Count? The Orange County Point-in-Time is a count and survey of homeless individuals and families on a given day in January. The Point-In-Time Count is conducted on odd years and it is coming up in January 2019! It’s a chance for all of us to get up-to-date information on homelessness in our community.
