Temple Beth Sholom Welcomes Bill Shafton as One of Our Cantorial Soloists

Temple Beth Sholom is thrilled to welcome Bill Shafton to our worship team as one of our regular Erev Shabbat Cantorial Soloists. He and Cantor Mark Thompson will partner with Rabbi Sharon Sobel on a rotating basis to lift our spirits and elevate our worship to the “very gates of heaven” with song, music and soul. Bill’s beautiful n’shamah shines through all he does, whether singing traditional melodies, composing original pieces or orchestrating a larger piece for multiple voices and instruments. He is a wonderful addition to our team.

Bill Shafton is excited to bring his passion for Jewish music and soulful prayer-leading to the TBS community. As the grandson of a rabbi and a former professional musician, Bill continues the long-standing Jewish tradition of bringing new expression to our timeless liturgy. When he’s not recording his original compositions or enjoying precious time with his family in Long Beach, Bill is general counsel for the world’s largest LGBTQ+-focused social network app.

Bill will begin with TBS in September. Watch for a special announcement in September as we form a volunteer band/singing group for a new monthly musical Shabbat: Shir Joy Shabbat (Shir = music in Hebrew!).
