Temple Beth Sholom Brotherhood is offering Yom HaShoah Yellow Candles to the TBS Congregation again this year.
Monday, April 20, 2020, erev Yom HaShoah, is when we light the Yom HaShoah candle. We light this candle in our homes in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
Included on the candle will be a label with the name, place of death and age of a child who died at the hands of the Nazis. As you light your candle, please include the name of this child in your meditation. This moment would also be an appropriate opportunity to discuss the Holocaust with your children.
This is the 22nd year of our participation in this program. The Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle Program is a joint project of the Men of Reform Judaism and the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, our Conservative brothers.
This event, centered on the lighting of the Yellow Candle, has become an annual event in the homes of many members of our congregation.
As in the past, we ask that you help us underwrite the substantial cost of this project. Funds received, over and above the cost, will go directly to support the youth of the Temple, as does most of the money raised by our TBS Brotherhood. The cost of buying the candles and shipping them under the new post office rules has increased dramatically. To help defer the cost, the candles will be available at the Temple or will be delivered by request. Your support is needed to keep the program going.
By remembering, by doing our part to ensure our future, we celebrate the ongoing life of our people, even as we memorialize of lives those that were destroyed. We appreciate your support of our efforts in this Yom HaShoah commemoration and our ongoing educational programs.
